Ty Segall & Freedom Band Present New Album ”Hello, Hi” at Brooklyn Steel
Ty Segall & Freedom Band traveling to Brooklyn Steel in New York on Saturday as part of the band’s ongoing world tour. The weekend gig saw the indie-underground multi-instrumentalist bandleader offer a preview of his upcoming album “Hi”released July 22.
Shows on the North American leg of Segall’s tour — which kicked off June 14 in Tuscon, AZ and headed east — always began with a brief acoustic interlude from Ty’s solo. Much of the show focused on Segall’s 2021 synth-heavy quarantine album, harmonizerwhile dropping breadcrumbs for “Hi” including the latest single, “Saturday Pt. 2“.
Freedom Band Sees Segall Performing Alongside New Keyboardist Ben Boyeas well as bassist Mikal Cronindrummer Charles Moothardand guitarist emmet kelly. Moothart and Segall were in Brooklyn in April for a show with their stoner metal trio DOWNNevertheless, Brooklyn Vegan notes that this was Ty’s first show at the Bowery Ballroom with Freedom Band since October 2019. At the time, Shannon Lay was a member of Freedom Band, but has since broken out as a solo artist, opening the first 11 shows of the North American tour.
