Sounds of the Weekend April 1-3

BRADENTON – April is upon us and the first weekend of the month kicks off with worthwhile and unique musical performances. Check out The Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see which bands you can catch and where.

Igor & Elvis red

As an independent band, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums, two live albums, a live concert DVD and a Greatest Hits compilation. Igor Yuzov grew up in the former Soviet Union and left Russia for America with his group “Folk’n’Roll” Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s star search and from there, their popularity grew.

In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends have become red Elvis. Evolving over the years, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock”. Over the past 20 years, the Red Elvises have toured the world with occasional breaks to record new music and perform in film and television projects. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 the day of the performance.

Located in the Bradenton Village of the Arts, Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen has quickly become one of the most popular outdoor music venues in Bradenton, Florida. Music is hosted on their intimate 80-seat patio garden, a perfect setting under the branches of towering live oak trees in the heart of VOTA. Known for his eclectic southern cuisine, chef Dave Shiplett puts his creative spin on southern classics by serving his brand of soulful southern cuisine in this century-old cottage that doubles as an art gallery. Riverwalk Park Rossi

The James Tyrone Band will perform live in downtown Bradenton at Riverwalk’s Rossi Park as part of the Realize Bradenton’s Music in the Park series. The family show is free to the public. The band includes Ron Salvo (guitar/vocals), Gene Jones (keyboards/vocals), Jim Copening (bass guitar), Susan Caudle D’Orazio (vocals) and Marcus Copening (drums/percussion). James Tyrone Band performs popular tunes from the 60s to the 90s, including contemporary hits. Their setlists include soft rock, modern pop, Motown, blues and jazz standards. No cover.

Dr. Dave Band

Brewing Motorworks

Friday: 7 p.m.-11 p.m.

The Dr. Dave Band is an energetic country and classic rock band. They have received five Reader’s Choice Awards, including Reader’s Choice Best Local Musical Group/Performer 2021, for their performances that feel good and make you smile. Band leader Dave plays guitar, electric violin and banjo. Dr. Dave describes their music as “Kick-grass country-rock”. No cover.

Since opening in 2014, Motorworks Brewing has become one of Florida’s most awarded breweries, with over 22 national and international medals. With over 20 beers on tap, a full liquor bar, extensive wine collection, and a rotating batch of seasonal and specialty beers available in the dining room, Motorworks is a great place to join friends for a pint. chilled or a cocktail. Rye Road Band has been thrilling audiences on Florida’s Gulf Coast for over a decade. Their sound is a unique blend of new country and rock. The band features the soulful vocals and country-influenced guitar of Pete Tamburin, the solid rhythms and stunning high harmonies of drummer Dan Garrido, the energetic, booming basslines of Bryant Crawford, and the booming keyboards of Tim Mayer. Catchy and accessible melodies under lyrics that everyone can identify with, a sound sure to rock you and move you! Coverage is $8.

About the place:

Previously located in Bradenton, Florida, Joyland has reopened on the Manatee/Sarasota county line off Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota. The music nightclub’s new location features a concert stage and sound system, an 1,800 square foot dance floor, and live music 3 nights a week. Wednesday nights are the venue’s blues night, Fridays they host variety and/or dance bands, and Saturday nights host country music shows. Serving local crafts on tap, a selection of bottled beers and a well-stocked liquor bar with a depth of whiskeys and tequilas. Steve Arvey

Steve Arvey began his career playing on the Chicago blues circuit in the 70s. During this time he shared the stage with many of the Windy City’s legendary blues masters. Now living in Florida, Steve is a fixture at major festivals and nightclubs throughout the South, Europe and the Caribbean. He is also considered by many to be one of the best cigar box guitarists in the world today.
In 2001, Arvey recorded his album Fine Line, In 2002, he embarked on his first tour of Australia. Arvey’s growing popularity earned him a spot at the 2005 Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival. It was in 2005 that Arvey discovered the Cigar Box Guitar. He then signed with Warner International and appeared on that festival’s compilation CD which included tracks by Dave Matthews, REM, Jack Johnson and other notable artists. No cover.

Sycamore Shade is an acoustic ensemble known for its rich bluegrass harmonies and lounge performance style. The band features familiar old folk, Americana and bluegrass standards along with original compositions, playing a wide variety of music from bluegrass to contemporary music.

Ship of Fools is a popular local Grateful Dead tribute band, formed in 2012 in Sarasota, Florida. The five-piece classic rock band also performs music from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Cliff, Van Morrisson, Chuck Berry, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, The Band, Talking Heads, Warren Zevon, etc. Their fans appreciate their soaring leads, catchy beats and tight harmonies. Ship of Fools perform improvised rock and blues, mixing folk, bluegrass and reggae, in a dynamic mixed sound, and perform at various local venues and festivals. A danceable staple for your weekend sounds.
