Kildare Nationalist – Musical theater returns to Newbridge
The Newbridge Musical Theater has welcomed its members to rehearsals for the first time in nearly two years, as the group prepares for their next concert ‘Music of the night: the greatest hits of musical theater ». The group, formerly known as the Newbridge Musical Society, will present the production at the Riverbank Arts Center, Newbridge, on 6e and 7e November for an evening filled with some of Broadway and the West End’s most memorable songs.
With the Newbridge Musical Theater planning to stage Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s hit musical “Evita” next April, the band’s concert will feature many composers of the most famous tunes from shows such as “Cats‘,’Jesus Christ Superstar ‘, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat ‘, and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, among many others.
The group decided to change their name from Newbridge Musical Society to Newbridge Musical Theater following their annual general meeting of members earlier this year.
The group’s public relations manager, Adam Trundle, explained that the decision to change the name was “one of the unexpected silver liners of our two-year hiatus.”
“As the organizing committee, we thought that an updated name might better describe our band and what we do – namely directing musical theater productions in Newbridge! We believe that the new name allows us to refresh our perception of ourselves and attract new members and the public. Each group must evolve and grow, and we are no different. We have had 40 wonderful years as the Newbridge Musical Society and hope for at least 40 more as the Newbridge Musical Theater.
Speaking about the November concert, “Music of the Night: Musical Theater’s Greatest Hits,” director Cian O’Dowd said, “We have put together an incredible program of well-known and entertaining music to celebrate our comeback and we can’t wait. to welcome an audience to the Riverbank Arts Center once again. Also, it was a wonderful experience to be back in rehearsal for a production after such a long absence and the excitement among our members to get back on stage was palpable during our first rehearsal on Wednesday. We have been waiting for a long time to perform again and everyone is committed to making this concert a fantastically entertaining experience.
The group held their first rehearsal for “Music of the Night: Musical Theater’s Greatest Hits” last week, but encourage anyone interested to join them at their next rehearsal at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 6th.e October at KNC Performing Arts, Unit 8, Newbridge Industrial Estate.
