City of Austin selects 4 community improvement projects

The City selects 4 improvement projects

Four projects proposed by community groups have been selected to receive project assistance and cost-shared funds under the Austin Public Works Neighborhood Partnership Program.

The projects will benefit the community by improving lighting, accessibility and the resources available on municipal properties.

The Davis / White Park Trail Lighting Project will install five pole-mounted solar lights along the Davis White Northeast Neighborhood Park walking trail. This project will be carried out in partnership with the Alliance for African American Health in Central Texas and the LBJ Neighborhood Association.

The TA Brown Park Improvement Project includes the installation of exercise equipment, construction of an accessible trail and ramp, and the addition of picnic tables and benches. Work on this project will be carried out in partnership with the Highland Neighborhood Association.

The Clawson & Lightsey intersection beautification project will remove plastic poles and asphalt from the road in two locations and replace them with a traditional concrete curb that will be developed and maintained by the South Lamar Neighborhood Association.

The Whirlpool Patio Education Center project will add new elements to the existing Whirlpool Patio, which was built by the Austin Public Works Urban Trails Program. The project will include two three-panel interpretive panels, educational activities, and a carved, climbing rock sculpture of a salamander. This project will be carried out in partnership with the Hill Country Conservancy.
